Sunday
July 4
The final heat was
set to be some of the best racing of the day. The U-6 Oh
Boy! Oberto was in lane 1, the U-100 was given lane 2, the
U-8 lane 3, and the U-1 in lane 4. The U-10 and U-16 were
both trailers. The front runs were 4 wide going in to the
first turn. Coming out the U-6 clipped a bouy and was penalized
a lap. The U-1 Miss Bud coasted away from the rest of the
field to take what will be their last victory in Madison.
Second place went to the U-100 with the U-16 Elam ending
in 3rd. The hometown boat, the U-6 oh Boy! Oberto came in
fourth. Both the U-8 Llumar and the U-10 Emcor lost escape
hatches during the race and did not finish. Both drivers
were ok, with bumps and bruises.

and the U-10 had a bad start after cutting the course twice
just after the one minute gun. As the U-25 and the U-100
both had a decent start, Weber had to play catch-up for much
of the race. Greg Hopp and the U-100 went on to an easy win
while Weber managed to run down Muscatel to take second. Heat

Once again
the Miss Bud takes home a win, a perfect day for the U-1
so far. Steve David secured a spot in the final with his
second place finish from lane 3. **Post heat information: the
points for the U-1 were taken away after a flagrant N2 violation.

U-16 Miss Elam Plus in lane three. Once again the Miss
Bud shot out to an early lead and Villwock never looked
back. Myers was able to hold on to second with Terry Troxell
finishing third.

J.W. Meyers,
in his second race of the year including the unsanctioned
Evansville race, timed the start of Heat 1B perfectly. Llumar
lead wire to wire. But the real race of the heat was for
3rd place between the U-25 Mr. Home Loans driven by Ken Muscatel
and the U-10 Emcor with Mike Weber. Muscatel and Weber swapped
back and forth throughout the heat. Rounding the last turn
it was a drag race to the finish with Muscatel edging out
the U-10.

Third Qualifying
Session
At the first Hydro-Prop
sanctioned race of the year, the third round of unlimited
hydroplane testing was red-flagged after the sanctioned rescue
and patrol boats allowed a pleasure boat to wander in to
the course while the U-6 Oh Boy! Oberto took a warm-up lap.
The session continued after the pleasure boat was escorted
off of the course.
