Heat 1A saw an intense battle for first between Dave Villwock in the Miss Elam and Jean Theoret in the Miss Beacon Plumbing.  They traded the lead back and forth until the engine in the Elam, for the first time this season, blew a hole in the bottom of the boat.  This left Theoret unchallenged to go on to the win.  The FormulaBoats with Jeff Bernard was quick to snag lane one before the start but failed to run like they had in qualifying.  They trailed the entire race.

Heat 1B

U-6 Oh Boy! Oberto Steve David 2nd 300
U-1 FormulaBoats Mike Allen 1st 400
U-48 Lakeridge Paving Dave Williams 4th 169
U-10 Miss Ahern Rentals David Bryant 3rd 225
U-21 Miss All Access Brian Perkins DNS 0
Heat 1B saw some serious competition.  Mike Allen was back in the FormulaBoats since hisflip in Detroit, and it was the original hull that he had flipped as opposed the th backup hull they were running in Washington.  Mike apparently liked the way the boat felt because he pushed ahead of Steve David and the Oh Boy! Oberto and stayed there for the rest of the heat.  David Bryant had visions of his come-from-behind victory over Oberto in Seattle as he caught up to the U-6.  But Steve kept the Oberto ahead of Bryant this time to take second.  The U-21 did not make it out.

Heat 2A

U-16 Miss Elam Dave Villwock 1st 400 400
U-10 Miss Ahern Rentals David Bryant 3rd 225 450
U-37 Miss Beacon Plumbing Jean Theoret 2nd 300 700
U-25 Superior Racing Ken Muscatel DNS 0 225
U-13 Spirit of Detroit J Michael Kelly 4th 169 469
Heat 2A saw some of the best racing of the weekend!  The 37 & the 16 ran deck to deck, with the 37 moving over to lane 2 around lap 2.  The acceleration of the Elam is nothing short of amazing.

Heat 2B

U-6 Oh Boy! Oberto Steve David 3rd 225 525
U-5 FormulaBoats Jeff Bernard 1st 400 569
U-1 FormulaBoats Mike Allen 3rd 225 625
U-48 Lakeridge Paving Dave Williams 4th 169 338
Jeff Bernard and the FormulaBoats came to race!  Bernard grabbed lane one before Steve David and the Oberto.  Oberto pushed the FormulaBoats, and Bernard held them off for the win.

Heat 3A

U-13 Spirit of Detroit J Michael Kelly 4th 169
U-5 FormulaBoats Jeff Bernard 1st 400 969
U-1 FormulaBoats Mike Allen 3rd 225 850
U-10 Miss Ahern Rentals David Bryant 2nd 300
It was another close heat with the U-5 and the U-10 pushing each other around the course.  The U-5 just pulled away in the turns, leaving the the U-10 to catch up on the straighaways.  Bernard went on to the win!

Heat 3B

U-16 Miss Elam Dave Villwock 1st 400 800
U-6 Oh Boy! Oberto Steve David 2nd 300 825
U-37 Miss Beacon Plumbing Jean Theoret DNF 0 700
U-25 Superior Racing Ken Muscatel 3rd 225 450
The race began before the start with the Oberto, Beacon, and Elam all after lane 1.  It ended up going to Beacon, with the Oberto in lane 2 and Elam relegated to lane 3.  Jean Theoret and Dave Villwock pulled away from Steve David making it difficult to find clean water torun in.  After battling it out for 2 laps, the Beacon Plumbing suddenly slid right through the roostertail of Elam coming out of the first turn.  it was later discovered that they had lost a blade off the prop.  That left a cake walk for thr Elam and Oberto followed for s 2nd.

What an amazing race! All of the boats came to win this final heat.  The winner would have to secure the inside lane as most of the boats are very close to each other speed-wise.  It appeared that Jeff Bernard was able to secure lane 1, only to have Steve David take it away in a move we first saw the sausage team use in Nashville, TN a couple years back.  But Bernard would not give up so easily.  He lead a good part of the first couple of laps, with Oberto running down the FormulaBoats only to pull away again.  David wasn't backing down either.  The 2 hit one another, as can happen in boat racing, when both boats came "unglued" in turn 1 of lap 4.  That bobble gave David the moment he needed to push ahead for good.  Unfortunately the Elam, having ended up in lane 4 and late on the start, pulled back into the pits sometime around lap 3, claiming to do so in order to save the engine.  Glad none of the others did that when they realized they weren't going to win.
